Career Day Expectations
My expectations for career day were not too exciting. I was expecting to watch my mentor work as I asked questions or tried to help or just watched. That was it. and that is really all career day is. It is students going to different jobs to see if we like them. That is what I did last time so I just thought it would be like that. It wasn't exactly like that though. I got a tour and did the interview and I was kinda done. I did get a nice insight to how engineers do their work so career day accomplished what it was suppose to do which was good.

Interview Questions
I interviewed my mentor and asked him some questions. I asked him what classes he thought prepared him for his job and he told me that his materials class helped him out a lot during his engineering job at survival systems. He also said that his training in one of the programs he uses helped him out as well and that when he worked in the machine shop at his school helped him design products that were feasible to manufacture. I asked him what were some practices a new engineer would need and he said that you should be respectful to everyone you work with, be honest with yourself and your work, and have good communication skills to be able to talk to the manufacturers and the clients or visitors so they can understand what you are doing. Finally, I asked him what I could to to stand out from my peers. He said to gain experience in the software engineers use and do well in math and science in school.
Reflection
My time at survival systems was a good one. I learned a lot about being an engineer and being a manufacturer. It was nice to see what the professionals used like solidworks and autocad. It was also cool to see the process of how they build their lifeboats. They also use a cnc machine to make some of the parts which was really cool because I got to see them working on some of the parts. I also had a thought about going into manufacturing because they do the building while engineers do the designing. I don't know yet though. Another career day that went swell.
